Wanda Denis Camacho

Wanda Denis Camacho was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and is the second of five sisters. She grew up in a family where her mother played a vital role in shaping her feminist vision for life. She studied in Puerto Rico and graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her first feminist work experiences were at the Commission for Women’s Affairs, after which she transitioned to the private sector, where she worked for over 30 years in various areas of Organizational Development, including the United States, where she has lived in recent years, for Johnson & Johnson as Director of Strategy in Organizational Development.

Wanda was part of Taller Salud for many years, serving as the first President of the Board when they officially incorporated. In her words, “what I learned through working with women and at Taller Salud has significantly defined the person I am today.” After moving to the United States, and in the various jobs she has held, she has dedicated herself to establishing mentorship and development programs for women and disadvantaged communities.

Wanda is married to Guillermo Vélez, her partner of 24 years, and together they have raised seven children (three of Wanda’s and four of Guillermo’s) of whom they are very proud. Joining the Board of the FMnPR has made her feel very honored and privileged to be able to contribute from the diaspora to promoting social justice and the general empowerment of women.
