SIEMPREVIVAS RUM
SIEMPREVIVAS RUM is a university project founded in 1997 at the University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez Campus (RUM). Under the leadership of Professor Luisa Rosario Seijo Maldonado, this initiative has offered comprehensive support to survivors of gender-based violence for over two decades, establishing itself as a leading feminist model in Puerto Rico.
What do they do?
They provide support groups, individual counseling, and social work and clinical psychology services in western communities such as Aguadilla, Moca, Añasco, and others.
They provide legal representation and advocacy, and have trained facilitators, social workers, psychologists, and student volunteers who bring a gender perspective to their professions.
Their intervention model has been documented and validated through systematization research, turning it into empirical evidence of community impact.
Vision
SIEMPREVIVAS RUM aspires to expand to all UPR campuses, recognizing the university’s fundamental role in addressing gender-based violence with social, academic, and political responsibility. Their approach demonstrates that feminist accompaniment in the community can save lives and influence structural transformations.
