Mujeres de Islas
Mujeres de Islas is a community-based nonprofit organization headquartered in Culebra, Puerto Rico, founded in 2010. Its mission is to identify resources, strengthen initiatives, and create projects that contribute to sustainable development through transformative education and a Culture of Peace, with impacts on emotional health, cultural, environmental, and socioeconomic development of the island.
What They Do
They run SEVA (Sede de Experiencias Vivas de Aprendizaje), a dynamic and living community learning space that responds to the personal and collective needs of Culebra.
They promote water and environmental sustainability through projects such as Proyecto Siembra, the solidarity incubator, agroecology, and educational initiatives in agriculture and self-sufficiency.
They offer hands-on workshops in self-care, permaculture, community entrepreneurship, sustainable aquaculture, and youth programming, strengthening skills and empowering the local community.
Vision
Mujeres de Islas envisions a Culebra where communities achieve dignified and just development through self-management of sustainable development, driven by transformative education and sustained by a culture of peace.
