La Sombrilla Cuir

right

La Sombrilla Cuir is a community-based transfeminist collective in Puerto Rico dedicated to creating better conditions for LGBTTIQAP+ people, with a special focus on trans women, Black women, non-binary individuals, and people with functional or neurodiversities impoverished by the system.

Work Performed

Through its social media channels, it promotes critical analysis from an intersectional perspective and raises visibility for issues linked to capitalism, patriarchy, and colonialism.

It organizes accessible and loving educational campaigns, using clear language to broaden understanding of identity, racism, and diversity.

It develops infographics, podcasts (such as La Ponkast, in collaboration with Espicy Nipples), and workshops that teach everything from resistance tools to deep reflections on language and oppression.

During disasters like Hurricane Fiona, it activated mutual aid networks specifically aimed at trans, queer, and non-binary people in the southeast of the island, thanks to support from the Mobilize Power Fund.

Vision

La Sombrilla Cuir imagines a more equitable, intersectional, and democratic society in which LGBTTIQAP+ identities are respected, empowered, and capable of transforming from their own lived realities.
