La Colmena Cimarrona is a non-profit community organization located in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Initially founded in 2018 following community responses to Hurricane Maria, it was established in 2019 as an agroecological farm in Luján. Since then, it has promoted a solidarity economy based on agroecological practices, beekeeping, and food sovereignty in the Puerto Rican archipelago.

Work Performed

It develops projects such as La Semillera, which operates as a farm guided by agroecological principles to promote viable, culturally, and economically sustainable agricultural production.

Through El Panal, it creates community spaces for coexistence through popular education focused on holistic health.

With La Sambumbia, it strengthens the link between producers and communities through mobile healthy food markets.

It builds support networks among local farmers through the Colectiva Agrícola Viequense, fostering agroecological production and education in Vieques.

Vision

The organization works to ensure Vieques consolidates its food and socio-environmental sovereignty. It envisions self-managed communities, free from inequalities, where collective care and agroecology are pillars of just and sustainable development.
