Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, known as Casa Julia, is the first shelter for women survivors of domestic violence in Puerto Rico and Latin America, founded in 1979.
Mission and Work
Casa Julia offers refuge, security, and comprehensive support to women and minors who are victims of domestic violence, with love, dignity, and commitment.
Its services include:
Safe residential shelter for women residents.
Non-residential programs in various regions, such as the south and west, for those who cannot reside in the shelter.
Rapid Re-Housing and permanent housing to stabilize emergency and transition situations.
Counseling services, legal guidance, emotional support, social work, and care for children of survivors.
Vision
Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos envisions a Puerto Rico where no woman lives in fear, where every survivor has access to a safe space, quality free services, and the possibility of rebuilding a full life, free from violence.
