Casa Juana Colón
Casa Juana Colón Apoyo y Orientación a la Mujer, Inc. (Casa Juana Colón) was founded in 2004 in the town of Comerío, Puerto Rico. At that time, the municipality faced marked social and economic uncertainty. Faced with this reality, a group of community leaders decided to create a community-based organization with the purpose of supporting women heads of household in their access to essential services such as physical and mental health, housing, and education.
Over the years, Casa Juana Colón began to deepen its work from a gender perspective, identifying the barriers faced by women in Comerío, in the center of the island, and throughout Puerto Rico. This vision made it possible to focus the work on urgent issues such as gender inequities, gender-based and sexual violence, and the limited availability of essential services for women and children.
Today, Casa Juana Colón reaffirms its commitment to accompany and advocate for women, especially survivors of gender-based violence, sexual violence, and stalking. The organization seeks for each woman to discover and develop her potential, transform her experiences into strength, and integrate them as a foundation to initiate processes of personal, family, and community change.
