A Flor de Piel

right

A Flor de Piel, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded on November 25, 2002, by actress and educator Elia Enid Cadilla. It became the first organization in Puerto Rico dedicated to the social reintegration of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women, a particularly vulnerable group that in many cases has experienced violence prior to detention.

Work

Using theater arts as an initial tool, A Flor de Piel accompanies these women through their healing process, promoting self-awareness, self-esteem, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Over the years, it has incorporated other educational and therapeutic resources to achieve deep and sustainable transformation.

Through programs like Peer Support (PAP), formerly incarcerated volunteers provide emotional support to participants on their journey toward life in freedom. This solidarity reclaims narratives of transformation that highlight strength, resilience, and the possibility of second chances.

Vision

A Flor de Piel seeks for each woman to transition toward a life of autonomy and self-sufficiency, reclaiming her dignity. Its vision is to establish a space of recognition, support, and real transformation that urges all of society to open doors to those who face social stigmas after serving their sentences.
