OUR VISION 2023-2027

Strategic Plan: Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico

Our vision for 2030 is to build, together with our allies, a just Puerto Rico where women, girls, and gender-diverse people can live with dignity, power, and equity.

At the Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico, we believe that all people—women, girls, and gender-diverse communities—deserve to live with dignity, autonomy, and equity. Yet, colonial history, structural inequality, and the lack of sustained resources continue to threaten their rights and wellbeing.

Our vision for 2030 is to build, together with our allies, a more just Puerto Rico where power, resources, and decision-making lie in the hands of those who sustain life and justice within their communities.

We champion a feminist philanthropy model that strengthens organizations advancing human rights, social justice, and gender and racial equity across Puerto Rico. We are committed to ensuring their sustainability, amplifying their influence on public policy, and cultivating a strong, resilient ecosystem deeply devoted to transformative change.

By reshaping how resources are distributed, supporting organizational growth, and generating data and stories that bring visibility to what has long been silenced, we strive to make social, racial, and gender justice not a distant aspiration—but a lived reality in every corner of Puerto Rico.

GOAL #4

Feminist Research for Systemic change

Support the generation of reliable data and the development of policy formulation, advocacy, and implementation initiatives that advance the defense of human rights and promote social and racial justice through a gender lens.

GOAL #5

Feminist Philanthropy In Action

Optimize FMnPR’s grantmaking model by aligning it with the systemic theory of change and ensuring the consistent collection of data through an evaluation framework.

Our goals are anchored in five internal pillars,
grounded in equity and feminist justice.

We promote a funding model that breaks away from traditional hierarchies. Our approach is grounded in horizontal, trust-based relationships between donors and women-led organizations. It is not only about delivering funds, but about building solidarity-based partnerships that recognize the autonomy, knowledge, and transformative power of those fighting for equity within their communities.

  • Decentralizes power by recognizing that communities know best what they need.

  • Fosters trust and collaboration instead of control and excessive oversight.

  • Supports long-term change processes by funding everyday work, not just projects with immediate results.

  • Makes visible and validates the leadership of women, trans people, and historically excluded communities.

  • Invests in the roots of social change, not only in its symptoms.

  • Acknowledges the value of care, emotions, and invisible labor as essential parts of transformation.

We believe in the collective power of feminist organizations to drive structural change. Our political and financial support is meant to strengthen their actions, recognizing that they are the ones planting the seeds for the buen vivir of women and their communities. We transform by supporting grassroots processes—not by imposing external solutions.

  • Recognizes that structural change begins in communities, not from the top down.

  • Strengthens collective power instead of individual or charitable responses.

  • Centers feminist organizations as leaders of social change.

  • Invests in long-term processes, not just immediate or easily measurable outcomes.

  • Breaks with intervention models that impose solutions without understanding local contexts.

  • Promotes organizational and political autonomy for those working at the root of problems.

  • Supports organizations that have been historically invisibilized and underfunded.

  • Helps build a more just country through the daily actions of grassroots leaders and movements.

  • Acknowledges that in a colonial context, supporting locally is an act of resistance and reconstruction.

We are committed to the leadership of women and gender-diverse people as protagonists of social transformation. At the Foundation, we create and strengthen spaces where their voices, experiences, and proposals are placed at the center of decision-making—shaping policies, narratives, and structures that perpetuate inequality.

  • Centers the leadership of women and gender-diverse people in driving social transformation.

  • Challenges traditional structures by making historically excluded voices visible.

  • Promotes more inclusive, just, and representative decision-making.

  • Drives change through lived experience and collective action.

  • Opens spaces of power for feminist leaders and gender-diverse communities.

  • Influences public policy with local and diverse voices.

  • Confronts structural exclusion through an intersectional lens.

  • Builds a more just country, led from the grassroots.

We foster collective spaces for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and tools among the organizations and communities we support. These spaces strengthen capacities in gender, social justice, leadership, and sustainability, while also promoting networks of collaboration that enrich the work of Puerto Rico’s feminist ecosystem.

  • Strengthens collective capacities in gender, leadership, and social justice.

  • Promotes knowledge exchange among allied organizations.

  • Enriches work through collaboration and mutual learning.

  • Validates knowledge built from community experience.

  • Weaves feminist networks with shared tools for action.

  • Sustains a stronger, more connected ecosystem of organizations.

  • Democratizes access to strategic knowledge.

  • Amplifies solutions rooted in and for local communities.

Our support goes beyond funding: it is a relationship of mutual care, active listening, and collective building. We walk alongside our partners in their organizational processes, strengthening their potential as agents of change and sustaining a shared vision of long-term feminist transformation.

  • Support is not only financial—it is also emotional, political, and organizational.

  • Promotes relationships based on care, trust, and collaboration.

  • Strengthens each organization’s transformative potential.

  • Sustains long-term change processes through mutual commitment.

  • Accompanies organizations facing multiple crises with limited resources.

  • Provides consistent backing in contexts of high vulnerability.

  • Affirms a way of doing philanthropy rooted in solidarity, not control.

  • Builds community and collective power in the struggle for gender justice.
