Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico Launches Investment that Transforms Campaign

The organization seeks to expand its support to entities committed to racial, economic, and reproductive justice.

(San Juan, Puerto Rico – November 27, 2024) With the purpose of expanding its economic support and technical assistance to community-based organizations, the Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico (FMnPR) will join the global Giving Tuesday movement this coming Tuesday, December 3, through the “Investment that Transforms” campaign, with the goal of raising funds to strengthen its non-profit philanthropic vision.

Since its founding in 2019, the feminist organization has awarded more than $1,900,000 in operational funds to community entities led by women, committed to racial, economic, and reproductive justice in Puerto Rico.

“Raising new funds will allow us to strengthen our commitment to creating fair and comprehensive economic relationships with women and their community bases, who are the ones who know firsthand the needs of the most vulnerable populations. Since our inception, we have focused on supporting that first line of defense, which has historically assumed the task of creating well-being without the necessary economic support. Through this new campaign, we are once again betting on that investment that transforms lives”, said Verónica Colón Rosario, executive director of the FMnPR.

The Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico has been recognized for its strategic support to communities that, despite their important work for generations, receive limited funds. In addition, it has worked from an urgent agenda to address the needs of populations impacted by inequality, violence, and discrimination.

“In 2024, we have allocated over $600,000 in grants, strengthening both the operation and the technical capacity of non-profit organizations led by women. Some of these entities have received funds for the first time that support the transformative work they do in their communities”, added Colón Rosario.

Some of the beneficiary organizations were: Casa Juan Colón, Casa Protegida Julia de Burgos, La Sombrilla Cuir, Mujeres de Islas, SIEMPRE VIVAS-RUM, Todas PR-Equilátera, Proyecto Matria, the Gender Equity Observatory of Puerto Rico, and Colectivo Ilé. On the other hand, since 2022 and 2023, the Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico supports the organizations Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses and Flor de Piel, who received operational funds for the first time to strengthen their historical efforts in favor of the rights of women and girls.

Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses is an intergenerational organization that has fought for the demilitarization, social justice, and dignified life of the communities in Vieques. Flor de Piel, on the other hand, leads efforts aimed at confined and formerly confined women to provide them with material and human resources that allow them to redefine their lives with greater well-being and a better quality of life.

Colón Rosario also highlighted the relevance of philanthropy in the fight for equity and against inequalities.

“Today, the work we do at the Foundation is not only important, but urgent. Our efforts continue to focus on strengthening the foundations of those who fight every day against inequalities and for economic, racial, climate, reproductive, and gender justice. The FMnPR will not take a step back in its fight for the right of all to live in dignity and peace”.

The Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico envisions through its philanthropic principles a Puerto Rico in equity, committed to social justice where women, girls, and gender-fluid people are protagonists and can fully develop from their freedom throughout the course of their lives.
