FEMINIST PHILANTHROPY

Transforming Funding
to Strengthen Solidarity

This is not charity. It is a political commitment to redistribute power, sustain life, and accompany processes of social transformation led by those who confront inequality every day.

Feminist philanthropy is a political and community practice that profoundly transforms the way resources are distributed. It breaks away from the traditional model where donors impose conditions, priorities, and controls that rarely reflect the realities of those doing the work on the ground.

Instead, it proposes a relationship based on trust, mutual respect, and horizontal collaboration. It recognizes that organizations, collectives, and community leaders are the true experts in their contexts, and that resources must arrive without strings attached (flexible, timely, and sustained) to support their sustainability and transformative power.

Feminist philanthropy is not limited to funding projects: it invests in organizational fabric, infrastructure, collective care, and the leadership of women and gender-expansive people who fight for equity from the margins.

Honoring the Vision in Practice

Feminist philanthropy is lived in the everyday, but also in the urgent. When crisis knocks at the door—as it so often does in Puerto Rico—we don’t wait for everything to be in order to respond. While many institutions become paralyzed, design processes, or wait for approvals, we are already activating our networks, distributing resources, and standing with our partners.

Our model of trust, situated knowledge, and flexible funding allows us to be agile, effective, and profoundly supportive. Our closeness with organizations and understanding of their histories enables us to act quickly, without bureaucracy, and to reach first the places where pain, need, and inequality are most acute.

In times of disaster, feminist philanthropy shows its strength: it redistributes power, sustains life, and prioritizes those who have historically been ignored. This is how we affirm that crisis response cannot just be feminist—it must be.

How this vision translates into concrete action:

COLLABORATION

We work with organizations as expert co-partners, recognizing that they know their communities and contexts best. We do not impose priorities—we accompany processes.

FLEXIBILITY

We prioritize operational, multi-year, and flexible grants, especially in critical moments. During emergencies, we release resources quickly, without unnecessary requirements.

COMMUNITY STRENGTHENING

We invest in organizational infrastructure, care processes, and long-term sustainability. We support capacity building, networks of mutual aid, and institutional autonomy.

AGILE EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Our light and close structure allows us to be among the first to arrive with financial and emotional support. In times of crisis, our network of trust activates to sustain life—not to control it.

Weaving a New Puerto Rico
Through Feminism

Feminist philanthropy is not an isolated act nor a technical project: it is a political commitment to transform the root of the injustices we experience in Puerto Rico. In a country marked by colonialism, gender violence, poverty, and structural racism, we believe that resources must be in the hands of those who fight every day for collective dignity.

Investing in feminist organizations means building sovereignty, sustaining communities, and contesting power. It means saying yes to a care-based economy, to radical democracy, and to a future where equity is not a promise but a daily practice.

The Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico exists because, many times, when no one else dares to invest, we do. Because we believe another country is possible, and that it will be feminist, just, and community-based.

Join this vision. Not only as a donor, but as an ally, an accomplice, an active part of a network that leaves no one behind. Because building another Puerto Rico is only possible if we do it together.
