Our Story

After the devastation of Hurricane María in September 2017, the challenges of confronting inequities and the various forms of violence that deeply impact women’s lives in Puerto Rico became even more urgent.

We recognized the critical need to advance feminist philanthropic investment to sustain the solidarity work and transformative efforts of women’s organizations—many of which operate with severely limited resources.

Out of this vision, and through the partnership between Puerto Rican women in the New York diaspora and women living on the island, the Women’s Fund of Puerto Rico was born.

Today, women remain instrumental in delivering rapid, relevant responses to defend and protect families and communities. We stand with them in their mission.

MISSION

Founded by women in the diaspora and on the island, we promote social justice and support the economic and physical security, health, reproductive autonomy, and overall empowerment of women, girls, and gender-diverse people.

VISION

We envision an equitable Puerto Rico, committed to social justice, where women, girls, and gender-diverse people are protagonists and can fully thrive in freedom throughout their lives.
