(San Juan, Puerto Rico- Agosto 19, 2025) During an event titled “SIEMPREVIVAS RUM: Lessons from the feminist practice to accompany, educate, and transform”, the SIEMPREVIVAS RUM Program presented the findings of a systematization report documenting the organization’s 15 years of work. Among the observations shared is the accounting of 37 femicides in Puerto Rico so far this year, a figure measured by the Gender Equity Observatory. This is happening at the same time that over 59 organizations that offer services to womem, girls, and transfeminized people face threats due to budget cuts. The organization presented a community model focused on intersectionality and transfeminisim that combines prevention, accompaniment and academic formation. However, they warn that recurring funds, administrative bureaucracy, and patriarchal structures put the sustainability of the program at risk.
