Alianza Mujeres Viequenses

The Alianza de Mujeres Viequenses (Vieques Women’s Alliance) is a feminist community organization committed to the well-being, justice, and equity of women and families in Vieques. Since its founding, the Alliance has worked to bring visibility to and address the specific needs of women in the island context, marked by decades of inequality, government neglect, and the aftermath of military occupation.

Its work integrates education, community organizing, support, and political advocacy, always with a human rights focus and a gender perspective. The Alliance drives projects that promote holistic health, food security, environmental protection, economic empowerment, and the civic participation of Viequense women.

The Alliance’s vision is of a Vieques where women live free from violence, with full access to quality services and the necessary tools to lead social transformation processes. They aspire to build a community where gender justice, sustainability, and self-determination are the principles guiding the collective development of the island municipality and Puerto Rico as a whole.
