(San Juan, Puerto Rico – March 25, 2025) A study, developed by Colectivo Ilé, in collaboration with the Intitute of Interdisciplinary Investigations of the UPR in Cayey, gathered how black and afrodescendant youths define well-being from their own experiences, and how racism and discrimination affect key areas such as health, education, work, security, and support systems. The study, directed by Miriam Morales Suárez from Colectivo Ilé, was carried out using a participatory methodology, including colletive dialogues that sought to listen.
“We’re focusing on centering black voices in this process, to know more information that is not accesible at the moment”, de conocer más información que no está accesible al momento”, Morales Suárez explained.
Carried out in collaboration with the Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico, with the support of a Foundation in USA and Vida Afrolatina, this work constitutes valuable input that visibilizes the experiences of those historically marginalized and strengthens the collective dialogue about the urgency to build more just conditions for communities.
