Funding cuts to women’s organizations could worsen the gender-based violence crisis on the island

(San Juan, Puerto Rico- August 20, 2025) In this interview, Verónica Colón Rosario, executive director of the Women’s Foundation in Puerto Rico, explains the complicated panorama that organizations offering services to women face in Puerto Rico. This is due to budget cuts that threaten their continuity, despite the fact that each dollar invested is multiplied in savings for the State and directly supports the community. Colón warns that the possible closure of centers that offer essential services to victims of gender-based violence, such as refuge, legal help, care, and education, would increase gender-based violence and feminicide crisis.
